In a significant diplomatic meeting in Istanbul, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in discussions aimed at deepening strategic cooperation between their nations. The high-level talks, which took place at Vahdettin Palace, centered on enhancing partnerships in various sectors such as trade, defense, energy, infrastructure, and regional security.
The leaders, accompanied by senior officials from both Turkey and Pakistan, addressed several key issues during their delegation-level discussions. Among the primary topics were the expansion of bilateral trade, boosting investments, strengthening defense industry ties, and improving digital connectivity. The talks also covered regional matters, including developments in the Middle East, the situation in Afghanistan, and counter-terrorism efforts.
One of the crucial goals highlighted in the discussions was the mutual commitment to increasing economic collaboration. Currently, the trade volume between Turkey and Pakistan is estimated at $1.2–1.35 billion, far short of their long-term goal of $5 billion. Both countries explored ways to increase Turkish investments in Pakistan, particularly in the energy, agriculture, transport, and technology sectors.
Defense cooperation remained a focal point of the meeting, with conversations revolving around military equipment, joint training programs, intelligence sharing, and potential future co-production projects. The leaders underscored the importance of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in fostering collaboration across these areas.
As the discussions concluded, it was anticipated that Erdoğan and Sharif would announce the results of their talks, including any new agreements, during a joint press conference.
