Eight nations, including Türkiye, have collectively warned against a potential new military attack on Iran, emphasizing the risk of escalating regional conflicts and destabilizing the Middle East. During diplomatic talks held in Istanbul, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan underscored the importance of diplomacy and dialogue as the most effective methods for addressing the crisis.
The gathering brought together Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy to discuss the increasing instability in the region and the broader implications of ongoing conflicts. Fidan highlighted the consensus among the countries to oppose further military escalation against Iran, cautioning that additional attacks could widen the conflict rather than alleviate existing tensions.
Participants also explored other regional concerns, including Israel’s involvement in regional tensions, the situation in the Black Sea, and security challenges related to the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The strategic significance of these shipping routes was emphasized, as disruptions could severely impact international trade and global energy markets.
Fidan noted that conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine are exerting economic and financial pressure on countries worldwide. He stressed the necessity of international collaboration and effective diplomatic strategies to prevent further destruction and support peaceful resolutions.
In addition to the main discussions, Fidan mentioned ongoing talks between Türkiye and Egypt to address Cairo’s concerns regarding Ankara’s maritime agreement with Libya. He expressed optimism about improving conditions to help reconcile Libya’s rival eastern and western factions.
