Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has urged for renewed efforts to enhance relations with the United States, emphasizing the necessity of strengthened dialogue and cooperation between the two nations amid persistent global conflicts. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan highlighted the positive outcomes achieved through collaboration on international issues, particularly in the Middle East, and expressed Türkiye’s commitment to deepening coordination with Washington.
Erdoğan outlined potential areas for expanded bilateral cooperation, including nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. He advocated for the removal of barriers that hinder joint defense production and the creation of more opportunities for collaboration. The Turkish leader pointed to Türkiye’s burgeoning defense industry, noting a significant increase in annual defense exports from around $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. He expressed optimism about Türkiye’s potential to become one of the world’s top 10 defense exporters.
In addition to defense, Erdoğan encouraged U.S. investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, citing new incentives designed to attract foreign investment. He announced a new investment drive aimed at leveraging a competitive incentive framework to stimulate economic growth.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons also spoke at the event, underscoring the long-standing partnership between the United States and Türkiye. He highlighted the crucial role of business ties and entrepreneurship in bolstering bilateral relations. The gala, which brought together senior officials and business leaders from both countries, celebrated the enduring diplomatic and economic ties between the two NATO allies.
