In a recent phone conversation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed the ongoing efforts to normalize relations between Türkiye and Armenia, as well as recent developments in the region. The leaders’ dialogue is part of a broader initiative to improve bilateral ties that have been strained for decades.
During the call, Prime Minister Pashinyan extended Eid al-Adha greetings to President Erdoğan. Both leaders took the opportunity to evaluate the progress made in enhancing cooperation and improving relations between their nations. Erdoğan highlighted that the normalization process is advancing through practical measures aimed at boosting direct trade and strengthening economic ties.
The conversation marks another high-level interaction between Ankara and Yerevan, showcasing their shared commitment to fostering peace, stability, and security across the region. Efforts to normalize relations began in late 2021, with both countries appointing special envoys to spearhead negotiations. Since then, steps have been taken to improve ties, such as the resumption of commercial flights in 2022.
This diplomatic engagement is considered part of a broader strategy to enhance regional stability and promote economic connectivity in the South Caucasus. Despite ongoing challenges, both Türkiye and Armenia remain supportive of dialogue and confidence-building measures as they work towards developing a more constructive bilateral relationship.
