Matt Cameron Bids Farewell to Pearl Jam After 27 Years Behind the Kit

After nearly three decades of rhythmic power and unwavering dedication, drummer Matt Cameron has officially exited Pearl Jam. The 62-year-old musician shared the news on social media, marking the end of an era for one of rock’s most influential bands.
“After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam,” Cameron wrote. He expressed deep gratitude toward bandmates Jeff Ament, Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, and Stone Gossard for embracing him since 1998.
Cameron joined Pearl Jam initially as a fill-in for Jack Irons during a tour. His impact, however, proved so vital that he stayed on, making his studio debut on the 2000 album Binaural. Over the years, he brought much-needed consistency to a band that had cycled through multiple drummers in its early years.
Before joining Pearl Jam, Cameron had already made a name for himself with Soundgarden, another pillar of Seattle’s grunge movement. His journey came full circle when he performed in both bands between 2010 and 2017. He recently wrapped up a tour supporting Pearl Jam’s 12th album, Dark Matter.
