The directors of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization and Egypt’s General Intelligence Service convened in Ankara on Monday to discuss key regional security matters, with a significant focus on the ongoing Gaza ceasefire. Ibrahim Kalın and Hassan Rashad’s meeting underscores the strengthening diplomatic and security collaboration between Türkiye and Egypt, aiming to bolster stability in the Middle East and Africa.
A primary agenda item was the advancement of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The officials reportedly concurred on the need to enhance their cooperative efforts to address what they described as Israel’s increasing breaches of the ceasefire. Kalın emphasized Türkiye’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, reiterating Ankara’s commitment to providing assistance amid the enduring conflict.
The discussions also extended to broader regional issues, including the pursuit of political reconciliation in Libya. The intelligence chiefs explored strategies to support the unification of Libya’s governing institutions and military forces under a single national administration, a move seen as crucial for the country’s stability.
Security challenges in other parts of the region were also on the table, with Kalın and Rashad sharing insights on Somalia’s situation and the conflict in Sudan, which involves the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. Their dialogue aimed to assess the implications of these crises for regional stability and identify opportunities for further dialogue on shared security concerns.
