Poland and Finland Strengthen Cooperation on Sanctions and Security

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen met in Warsaw to discuss deepening cooperation on European security and sanctions policy. Sikorski emphasized that Finland remains one of Poland’s most dependable partners within both the EU and NATO, highlighting their united stance on using frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine.
The ministers also addressed the threat posed by Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” which Sikorski described as a major risk to maritime safety and the environment in the Baltic Sea. He praised Finland’s robust civil defense systems and called for greater coordination to counter Russian activities in the region.
Valtonen announced that Finland supports imposing tariffs on all Russian imports, reinforcing her country’s firm commitment to economic pressure against Moscow. She noted that both nations share a common goal of building a safer and more prosperous Europe through continued solidarity with Ukraine.
The meeting underscored Poland and Finland’s growing partnership in defending regional stability, enhancing deterrence, and advancing coordinated EU measures to respond to ongoing security challenges.
